There will be an effort to get a couple more buildings shingled on the hill. The 11th and 12th of July we will need people with some roof experience to tear off and reinstall the shingles on the Baker depot. The Hickson Depot also needs shingles and if the crew is big enough we may try to do it also. Some of the crew that did such a great job last year has again volunteered to steer the project.

If you have coil nailers, roof jacks, shingle removal tools, or air compressors please bring them along.

Hello every one
Just to inform every body Yancy, Justin and my self will be up at the hill Friday the 10th. So if any body is looking for something to do we will be getting set up for shingling. If we have time we will tear off the old shingles. Saturday the 11th shingling will start in the morning unless we don’t get the roof tour off Friday night. Thank you hope to see you there.
Ps you don’t need to be a roofer to come help you will leave a roofer I know I did it last year.

Like Josh said we could use the help everybody. I just wanted to say even if your scared of heights, there will be some clean up that will be needed (picking up shingles, nails, dropped hammers, etc.) If you a magnet, lawnrake, or a pole with a nail on the end of it, that would be helpfull for clean up

Started fixing the eaves on the Hickson Depot this morning. Have the west side done and half the north. It will be ready by Saturday, the 11th. You should consider this building your first priority. While the Baker Depot doesn't look so nice because of the different color shingles, it is basically in good water proof condition. Remember that the School house is also on the list to be re-shingled and it is in very bad condition.
I will have scaffolding, roof brackets, etc. available.

Merlyn,

If you feel the school house is worse than Baker certainly divert the crew there after the Hickson. I did notice a leak around the chimney of Baker when I was cleaning the attic but we can caulk that to hold us for another year if necessary.

If we get more shinglers than we need on the roof at one time, I think the steel for the roof on the building near the west gate will be here, so we could divert people to that project.

I was on the grounds for a couple of hours on Saturday, and helped Merlyn and crew set up the scaffolding by the Hickson Depot... Drove by an hour later and they were well on the way getting the fascia all fixed up!

The shingle job on this building should go pretty quickly if there is enough help. Take a look at the shingles! I guess it is probably time to get the new ones on!

Your right, that roof looks really bad by that photo. After that depot whats next the school house? Anybody that can come and clean up would help out a lot. I know that there's going to be projects going on. So stop on by, and give somebody a hand

Yancy,

As the Hickson gets close to done you should check with Merlyn for the next roof in the priority list. I will be on the grounds Friday night and part of Saturday but will be on another project. We should have our radios on so if you need some assistance from me you should be able to get ahold of me via another director.

Thanks for your enthusiasm and expertise.

Hello everbody. I'm trying my hand at photo bucket, so if this doesn't work out I'm sorry and I'll try again. Today a bunch of us took on the Hicksons roof. Being that the west side had 2 layers and east had 3 layers it took us a while to get them off. This photo is the finished roof.

Great job on the roof guys.:thumb:

You did a good job posting too Yancy!!

The roof really looks good.

Thanks to everyone that helped Yancy and the roofing crew. Again we see the volume of work that can get done when our terrific volunteers pull together to " Get 'er Done".

We plan on working on the school house the weekend of July 24-26. It's going to a big project, anybody that can come out and help we won't turn you down. Besure to bring a potatoe fork, gloves, and a flat bar. Hope to see you there.

Pretty boy??? :rof: Sounds like there might be a story there!

Thanks to Yancy (wifyan) for championing this project, and (if I may add my personal thanks) to all who came to help out! You guys are all a lot of fun to work with, and make even a hateful job like shingling a steep roof a great way to spend an afternoon!

Thanks also to Jerry Asher and the RR crew for the refreshments provided at the end of the job! It was appreciated!

I can't begin to thank you people enough for the great job you've done on the shingling of Hickson. I am SO sorry I wasn't there to encourage you and help. I have a reason but no excuse, as I told a patrolman in 1958 when I went thru a radar trap at 108mph.
Looking forward to Baker move. I appreciate the support Friday nite over at the meeting - all you who showed up to support the Baker move. You presented yourselves very well.
Shirley & I are involved in our annual car show in Bemidji this Sunday, but we plan on coming over to Rollag next Wenesday July 22 thru the 26th, and HOPEFULLY somewhat regular from then on for Labor Day show. Tnx agn.
Boyd.
