Your A looks great. If those rear wheels and wide front were on that tractor new, You probably have a John Deere "AW" (hi clearance) tractor. They are kind of hard to find. I have a 1949 John Deere A that I hope to show at WMSTR in 2008. Andy.

The tires on the tractor are 42" and in the book that we were looking at didnt say that serial no. was made with 42", but the tires look like they are original.

Nice looking older JD. That will be the fun thing about owning something old like your A, finding out why, what, where and when. You have something that is not the normal....keep hunting to find out the history....yours is special. Have fun.

Hi Grant,
I saw your profile and it says you are a 7th grader, so am I. I'm 14. What is the part number on the rear axle? If you give me that number, I could tell if it is a AW. Great looking A. http://wmstrcommunityforum.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Andy.

The 2 front wheels are not original they look like they are like co-op tires because one is different from the other.
Very nice tractor. Looks parade ready, are you going to bring it to Rollag this year?

No, it is stored at my grandpas in N.D. But I do plan to bring it in 2008 for sure, that is if we save for the gas money(you all now how that is:mad: )
It is parade ready and it has been taken pretty good care of so it should be just as good looking as it is in the picture!!

Hey Grant... Did you tell your Grandpa you know how to start a John Deere the way they used to?
I don't know if I told you or not, but my "B" used to be electric start. I took it off many years ago and put the hand start flywheel on. I had a good magneto, and I figured this way I would not have to mess with a battery! They are always dead!
I have to try to find a "D" or a "G" for you to hand crank now... That will put hair on your chest!:bannana:
