I have not taken any pictures of Spark Shows. I seem to be a bit busy then. I am lucky that some members and guests have shared their pictures with me. Here are pictures that I have. I hope that others will add to this. Anyone is free to copy any pictures I have posted as long as they don't them for personal profit. I hope to copy other pictures posted to a CD so that I can enjoy them any time.

Very cool photos!
Here's a pretty sweet picture of Dr. Gerald Parker's 28 Minneapolis giving a spark show at last year's show.

In 2007, I will have both my still DSLR camera, and my HD video camera onsite to film, so will try and catch more spark shows. They are always impressive to watch.

Very nice gallery from your link. That had to be about the most perfect night for a spark show that I have ever been involved with.

It sure was a great year for the sparks. I can recall the last 3 or 4 either being too wet/cold or too windy. I'm hoping for a dry year in '07!

I'm with you there!! We are due and really need four dry days. It would be really nice to not worry so much about cutting projects back to buy the toilet paper.
Our whole crew really lives for the spark show. We will enjoy it in just about any weather but the one in five that turns out like this is a real gift for us.

woo hoo !!!!!
That was a windy night! From the looks of the pictures, you must have been standing on the TMB side of the spark show. That was one of the evenings that the sparks all blew into Gunderson Pond.
Thank you for putting these pictures up for us!

Thank you, gentlemen, for the kind words. I'm glad I've found a good use for all the Rollag pics and vids I have. I'll post more as I sift through the archives.
I took these pictures from in front of the water tank, carefully setting my camera on the hood of an 8N Ford parked there in lieu of a tripod. The exposure times were between .5 and 1 second.

I think that when the newsletter comes out and more of our members realize what fun this can be you will have a very large audience looking at your picture posts.
I do not have a lot of time for picture taking during the show so I really enjoy getting pictures from other people. I have had several just come up to the engine and share pictures and have even had a few send me some very nice photos. Having them in the forum is even better yet. Many more can enjoy them right along with me.:)

What kind of camera did you use, JL? It is always tough to capture anything at night. Plus, I'd like to get a newer camera that lets me do things like you had mentioned: setting the exposure time.
Thanks for the pictures, too; I wasn't able to stay for last year's spark show.

These images were taken with a Canon A40, which is not a very sophisticated camera at all. It's about 8 years old and has a maximum resolution of 2MP.
When you select your new camera, I suggest that it be no smaller than a basic 35mm film camera. The littlle, pocket-sized cameras are harder to hold steady, and tend to have less features, and lower battery life.
All but the simplest of modern digital cameras are capable of manually setting the exposure, so I don't imagine you'll have to spend too much money to get a camera that will meet your needs and allow you to be creative.
I also suggest getting an extra battery, a memory card no smaller than 512MB, and a tripod (a must for spark show pics.)
Finally, if you're photographing the spark show, experiment with your exposure and take lots of pictures. I shot over one hundred pics of that spark show, and only got about twenty "keepers".
I have a new camera now, and I plan on camping at Rollag this year, so I'm going to try to shoot some pics that are as stunning as the ones on the first page of this thread.:not_worthy:
Sorry, I got a bit long-winded on this post, I hope it was helpful.
