For a couple of years now Jerry Christianson and I have been kicking around the idea of putting up a building for housing a cut off saw and the shows shingle mill.
We would want it in a place where we could get gas tractors and steam engines near it to power a jack shaft and would also recruit a one lung engine to be a power supply.
The product would be shingles. A small pack of cedar shingles on a yarn could be sold for closet air fresheners. We could also stamp them individually to add to the kid's give a way collection.
The show used to cut a lot of it's own shingles and if someone wanted to get us to cut them a batch we could maybe arrange that.
I am ready to try and get this project going for next year.
Jerry? What do you think?
Any one else out there interested?

Hi Rick,
I am with you.
Rick and I looked at some possible locations a couple years ago. One spot we thought about using is the area just east of Expo Hall. I don't remember which other places we considered. We are certainly interested in hearing what other people have to say.
At one time enough truss rafters were on the grounds to cover the building we had in mind. Are those rafters still around?
Later,
Jery

If the original ones are not in the TMB there are the ones from the tornado damage up by the Ellingson Roundhouse. We should reserve them if we feel they would work.

The Crew at Earls mill have also been kicking around the idea. We have considered abuilding that would house several machines. (Shows shingle mill, Arvid Benson cast table saw, Ole Lind Boatworks Shaper, Surface planer, Etc.) We had the idea that they could be run from a line shaft that could be powered by steam or a tractor. We were donated some rafter for the project and have them in the Mill. Due to finances, we did not make the proposal this year. Lets get together and talk.

Merlyn,
I'm in on this one.:bannana:
This sounds like a great project.
It can certainly be done in stages and keep quiet a few busy doing it.
Thanks we will talk.
Rick
