Oh yes, we had/have ice. I've worked nearly non-stop since Saturday afternoon on my job as my boss chose Friday to have rotator cuff surgery and left me hangin! We still have one shelter open. It was/is a mess!

Hope to see some of your projects, posted as pictures, so all can see your talents! I am really amazed at some of the projects you've done. Maybe you will find a youngster who wants to try weaving with you. What a way to continue your talent into the future. I have quite a bit of denim saved up and someday I hope to learn how to make it into a quilt. Take care and see you soon!
I am looking forward to the GREAT outdoors at Rollag!!!

Oh Katy, I'd love to teach you how to make a quilt with your denim. I have plastic tubs full of it and hope to make some quilts out of it when I retire. I'm so busy doing quilts for Home of the Brave, I don't have time to make quilts for me:mad: I looks like I won't be up again this year for Steam School. My boss is retiring and will be in Arizona lining up their new home. Den is really mad, but there isn't anything I can do about it, unless of course I retire before him:) Now there's a thought!

Hi guys,
How's it going? It has been metling here the last couple of days and so Spring must be around the corner! When it gets nice out we start thinking of Rollag. I thought I had confirmed my email for this site but Mark emailed me and said it had not been confirmed. He fixed it from his end. Thanks Mark!
We are real excited in Hancock right now. The girls basketball team is going to state! ;) We are Section 5A. It's been 10 years since any team has gone to state here. It starts next Wednesday and I hope to be able to go that day.
Have a nice weekend!

It's melting here also. FANTASTIC! I am soooo looking forward to the 68 to 72 degree temps. That is a perfect day with a little blue sky and sunshine! Only thing that makes it better is being at Rollag. I am really glad we have such a great place to go to, even though we end up putting in some of our time working out there, we still enjoy going there! I think working out there makes the relaxing more enjoyable. When I was a little girl my family would go to my Grandparents farm every weekend, during the summer we would sometimes stay to help them on the farm. It was a lot of hard work, but the memories are the best!!! I guess, maybe Rollag helps me feel a little closer to some of my memories:)

Roxane, that is fantastic! Does your daughter play? I miss all the sports I used to go to with my kids, now grandkids live too far away. I do try to get to Kansas to watch Zac play, but didn't make it for basketball this year - baseball is next for him and I know I'll be down this summer. The weather here is warming up, not quick enough for me though! I'm really tired of the cold - I'm leaving on Friday for more snow though, going to Colorado to visit youngest son and family in the mountains. While it is beautiful, I really want to take off my winter coat:>)
I love going to Rollag, I love being outside, seeing old friends and making new ones. Of course, we work hard, but play hard too:) Hugs, Sandi

Ashley doesn't play basketball, but she is in Pep Band. The kids really dress up for these games with school colors and it is fun to see their zany outfits.
I started going to Rollag when I was about 4. Mom said we went about every other year back then. When I started dating Darrell I took him there and he instantly fell in love with the place. Darrell said that since 1978 we have only missed 2 shows; once we went to the State Fair and the 2nd time we missed I was 9 months pregnant with Ashley. We started camping there in 1995 because it just got too much to see in one day. We became members in 1999 because I thought it would be so much fun to work there and I was right!
I have memories of tractors pulling cars out of the mud when the parking lot used to be where Expo Hill is now. :p

Wonderful weather today really wants to give me the urge to go to Rollag! What kind of current projects are you working on for the Boutique? Try to post a picture or two so others will know what you are up to. I am not mentioning names, because I would like this to cover all of the members with craft ability. I am looking forward to your posts and pictures!:)

Hey Katy!
I have been crocheting some discloths as I always do. I had started crocheting a baby afghan but gone several rows into it and realized I made a big mistake back towards the beginning. I decided to rip it all out and am going to use a different pattern since I wasn't crazy about this one anyway. Other than that, I haven't done much. How about you?

Hi Roxane,
I am not working on any special projects at this time. I really do not have any excuse for this either, as the kids are all grown up and gone. I am hoping the warmer weather will bring about more ambition! Wonderful hearing about your projects and sorry to hear about the afgan problem. You are still way ahead of me! Keep up the good work!!!:D

Mark or whomever - the screens on the boutique are in need of repair. Also, Mark, remember last year I talked to you about the outside water fixture just outside the back door? Is it possible to have it raised up. It also is in need of repair. During the show last year the girls from the dye kitchen had mega problems with it and got soaked trying to fix it. We will be up over Father's Day weekend - and I GET TO COME THIS YEAR!!! I retired effective 5/31 - not that I'm looking forward to it or anything:>)

Hey Sandi,
I sent you a private email a couple of weeks ago. We are coming up Father's Day weekend also! First time we are able to do that. We are taking our camper there this weekend, weather permitting. Sounds like it is supposed to rain. I bought some Purple Cone Flower seeds to plant outside the Boutique. Remember, I talked to you and Helen about that a couple of years ago. I was going to do it last spring, but never got up there to do it. I just thought we should have something that blooms during the show planted by the Boutique. Wanted Rudbeckia but couldn't find any. The seeds were picked over.
Anyway, look forward to seeing you on Father's Day weekend and congratulations on retiring!! :)

Hi, I did get the e-mail, I was in Colorado for two weeks staying with 5-1/2 month old grandson while son, DIL and 3YO Tanner went to Mexico, when I got back, had work, night meetings, then Den and I went camping this weekend. Haven't been on computer much at all! Purple cone flowers will be good - Den and I planted the tiger lilies several years ago. Wish we could get something to grow in the back of the building, but I haven't a clue what! See you on Father's Day weekend, I'M SO READY!

So, I don't care if my boss is on vacation or not - I'm done:>))) I bought the sticky dots for price marking in the boutique, have to look at the list to see what else we need. I still need to iron all the curtains and will bring them up on Father's Day weekend. I think we need a couple of curtain rods too, they pulled out from the wall and the little hooks are lost. Sure hope some of the other ladies join this forum, great way to keep in touch with everyone at the same time. Hugs, Sandi

Hi Sandi and Roxanne, I just found out about this discussion forum. I am the "newbie" who helped at the boutique for the first time last year. My husband and I will be going to steam school next week. I am going along for the ride and will be working on items for the boutique. I've already made 3 felted purses and 3 felted wine bottle carriers. I tried to attach a photo but the system says it's too large a file. I'm also making bookmarks out of beads. I'll show them to you, and you can tell me whether they will sell. Is there any work to be done while we're at steam school? Desyl

Hi Desyl! So good to hear from you! Can't wait to see your felted purses again this year, they were so cool:>) I still haven't learned how to knit, but maybe now that I'm retired I'll have more time. Will you be parked where you were last year? We brought up a new old camper in October and I'm so anxious to see how it weathered during the winter. And, it is MUCH NICER than the old, old camper. There really isn't much to be done in the boutique, it is too early to start cleaning and putting stuff out. The screen doors need to be replaced, and the water faucet outside needs fixing. We'll just have to see how the bldg. looks when we get there. See ya next weekend!

We don't know where we'll be camping, but I'm sure that I'll run into you two sometime. I saw in an earlier post that you would like some plants on the back side of the building. I don't remember the conditions back there. If there is quite a bit of shade, I could donate some hosta plants. Just thought I would say Hi to Sandi and Roxanne. Hopefully we will be up the week before the show. Mr. has been working out of state all summer so we haven't had a chance to go anywhere. I just had surgery on my right arm so everything has been a pain :( to try and do. I just got the cast off:D so at least I can type...very slowly. Needless to say I am not going to be the biggest help but I will try and get something done. A friend of my was going to drop some stuff off at the shop for me to do. I think she was going to put my name on it. Hopefully it is not to much. Anyway hope you both enjoy the rest of the summer as it flys by! See you soon. Lori K:bannana:

Hi Lori - good to "hear" from you. Sorry about your surgery, but hope whatever it was will make it feel much better. I've been busy making a few things for the boutique. Of course, I never get done all the things floating around in my head. I've been so busy making quilts for Home of the Brave, and now Christmas Stockings and pillowcases for the troops for this holiday season, everything else gets put on the back burner. We won't be up til August 28 late, Den is not retired and can't go until then. Of course, if I could sprout wings and fly, I could be there anytime now, retirement is great that way:D
See everyone soon!

We are going up to Rollag on Saturday, August 25. As Darrell says, one more week of work... I am busy finishing up a couple of embroidered dish towels. Ashley and I are going to make some Soup in the Jar recipes this week. I have been busy crocheting lots of dishcloths.

We used to be able to come up the week before when the kids were in college and close to home. Now that they are out on their own and raising families in far off places, we have to keep some vacation to go visit. I retired, but Den is still working so we have to ration his vacation days for a couple more years. I loved coming early, hitting Potato Days, and working in the boutique and just hanging out;) I told him next year he can just bring me up in June and I can stay til he comes up for the show, that didn't go over so good:D

You mentioned "just hanging out" Sandi. I think the week before the show is just as much fun as the show. I enjoy seeing all the people! As you know, we have been up there a few weekends this summer and it is pretty boring up there (with the exception of Father's Day Weekend). Most of the time there is no one up there to talk too. Am looking forward to being there to see all our old friends! Can't wait and am counting the days!! :D

Oh, I know, I loved it the week before. We actually had a chance to sit and visit with old friends and meet new ones. During the show you barely have time to eat, let alone visit. I can't do it at night after working all day I'm totally exhausted. We stay a couple of days after the show to clean up, etc., it is eerily quiet. I told Den it is like our ancestors still want to play and everyone is gone.
Are you guys eating in the eat shack during the show? Den already paid for our evening meals, but thought it would be fun to have a potluck maybe.....what do you think?

Hello ladies,
We are going up on Wednesday so that we'll have a little time before the show starts. I'm glad to help with set-up if you need it. I've already made money for the boutique. I showed my felted purses to a friend, and she wanted to buy one. I remembered that Sandi priced them at $35 last year, so I told my friend she would have to pay $40, which she did. I have a check for you. We didn't buy any of the evening meals, so count me in for a potluck.

That is great that you sold a purse and are donating the money to the show. Very nice of you!

I have a friend who just moved, and she gave me a bunch of the packing paper that the mover used. It's kind of a craft paper, that looks like what you find stuffed into new purses. Should I bring it for the boutique? I think it would be nicer than using newspaper when we wrap things.

Sandi - I have noticed to that you can only reply to the last poster.
Ladies...
You can quote anything you want to! It is really easy.
If you want to quote a specific post... look in the lower right corner of the post you want to reply to. There is a "Quote" button you can click on. If you click that button, you will be taken to a message editor window where you will see the text from that post inside of [ quote ] and [ /quote ] brackets. The first [ qoute ] will have an = sign with a name next to it. This is what gives the quote credit to whomever said it.
Another way to quote something someone said is to highlight the text you want to quote and respond to, then right click it, and choose the "copy" option. Then go to the post reply window (just like you normally do) and right click in the area where you want to insert the text, and choose "paste"! After you have done this, highlight that text again, and then click the little word balloon icon (left of the pound sign) on the editor window... above where you type your message. You will see that when you click this icon, it wraps the [ quote ] tags around the text you had selected. If you want to attribute that text to someone in particular (like I did with you guys above...) just add the "=Mallands" (or whomever) after the first quote... example [ quote=mallands ].
Want to have some fun? You can even do this...
We're going to have a really big shooooow!
Another note. See how Sandy's quote above has a little arrow icon next to it? That is because I used the "quote" button in her post to reply to this thread. I deleted the rest of the text in her post after I got it here. If you click on that little arrow icon, you will be taken back to the post I am quoting her from (earlier in this thread) and there you can see her complete post, not just the sentence I left there. To quote Mallands, I just used the copy and paste method, and added the =Mallands to the quote. That is why there is no arrow near her quote. There is an easy way to add it there too, but that is for another lesson some day!
The big lesson is... Don't be afraid to experiment! You cannot hurt anything. If you screw up and don't like the way your post looks, you can delete it for up to 2 hours after you post it!
You ladies are having fun here, and thats what were looking for. You have a very active forum! Thanks for participating, and don't be afraid to ask for help!
Side note... in the examples I used above, I had to add a space between the [ and the quote. There are no spaces when you do it for real. I had to add the space to "fool" the software so it didn't treat my example as a real quote!

Your getting it Roxane! I fixed your above post for you... the reason it looked funny is because you had one extra [ quote ] in there. Keep working at it, you'll soon be an expert!
To sum it up... anything between the HTML tags "quote" will be highlighted in the post... like the words "Keep on truckin" in the below example...
[ quote ] Keep on truckin [ /quote ]
Note, the /quote means it is the end of the quote. If I didn't have the extra spaces in there, it would look like this...
Keep on truckin

Sandi and Roxanne, Okay, so I am really trying to figure this thing out. But I figure if you can read this, then at least I am getting part of it.
Well, we had planned on coming up this weekend but now it is all in the air. Mr. might end up working all week and we might end up missing the show. So needless to say I am really upset :( about the whole thing but there is not much I can do about it. If we don't make it, it will make the 4 show I have ever missed since, I was born. So right now, I have all my stuff ready to go and I have "almost" everything that I have been working on done. My sister might:confused: be going up and if she does, I will try and send some of things with her. She has very limited space in her vehicle so, it will have to be the small stuff. Just thought I would give you and update. Hopefully I will be seeing you soon. Lori

Hi Sandi and Roxanne,
At a knitting retreat I learned a technique called "Viking knitting" which isn't really knitting. It's weaving sterling silver wire to form a bracelet. I've enjoyed doing it. The resulting bracelet is quite striking. It almost sparkles. This would be too expensive to sell in the boutique, but I'm wondering if it's something you would like to add to the raffle. Although the picture doesn't do it justice, you can see what it looks like by going to:
http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_knitting/article/0,,DIY_14141_4177158,00.html
Let me know if you would like to add this bracelet to the raffle, and I will make one.
With the weather turning colder, I'm feeling like staying inside and knitting!

That necklace is fantastic! It must have involved a lot of work! Sandi did have somethings picked out for the raffle that were in case during the show, but don't remember what it all was. We'll wait and see what she says. That bracelet would certainly qualify!!

Hi Desyl, yes we can sell the stuffed animals - funny you posted that, I have two bags this year to bring too! My 24 year old granddaughter gave me all of hers to bring north.
I can't wait to see your bracelet, I'll bet it is BEAUTIFUL!

Hi everyone - Hope your winter went well, all I can say, I'm sure glad to see some "green"! Wow, the rabbits and squirrels were so hard up for food, they ate all my plants, and nearly all of my hens & chicks. I was not very happy that's for sure. But, winter is past and it is time to think forward to WMSTR. Hope you all have been busy creating crafts and home-made products to sell in the boutique this year. Remember, if you make any canned items we need to have the rings left in tact. Many people from all over the world purchase these items, and with the rings removed they don't travel well. If you don't can and have some rings you can bring, just drop them off and we will use them on jars to come in without them.
See you all soon,
Sandi

We are missing parts of our newsletter and when I try to log on to the Rollag site, it requires a password - of which I forgot! Is there anyway for me to find out what the password is? Mark if you are monitoring this, could you e-mail me with the information I need? Thanks, Sandi

Hi everyone, hope you all are ready for Rollag, I know I AM!!! We haven't received a newsletter for quite some time; there is supposed to be some important news about registration and worker's eat shack. We will be up a week early this year YAHOO! It has been a very long time since we were able to come up early and stay late and I'm going to enjoy every single minute of it. Kitten, if you are on - we are going to drive over to Perham one day - this invite is for anyone who wants to go - of course they have a quilt shop or I wouldn't be going:)
See you in a few weeks:bannana:

Hi all!
Well it is August 1 today. Less than a month from now the show starts! I suppose you are all busy little beavers getting things ready for the Boutique. August is a real busy month for me. Beside getting crafts ready for the show, I am on the Stevens County Fair board. The Fair is in one week. It gets hectic for me, but is a lot of fun! Plus, I take a week of vacation for the Fair and for WMSTR!
See you all at showtime!:dancingparty:

Just wondering what everyone has been making for the Boutique. I know Desyl was working on some John Deere beaded bookmarks during Steam School weekend. I am working on crocheting dishcloths and embroidering dishtowels.

I'm planning on making John Deere wreaths and possibly John Deere picture frames.

This year, I'm bringing 35 or more bracelets. Made with green and yellow beads on stretch cord, with WMSTR or JD Expo 08, on them. Really simple - should be great for kids.
