During the show, Tom Dillon gave me a heads up about a new carving on the Merry Go Round. I went and checked it out, and also got to meet the artist and visit with him for a while.

Here is Carl Breckenfelder and his latest project. It is an Advance smoke box door,
and is now mounted in the center of the Merry Go Round.

I am sure there is a correct name for these pieces in the center of the ride, but I do not know what it is. There is also a Case eagle.

Excellent work Carl! How about the Avery bull dog for next year?

Mark,
Thanks for posting Carl's newest carving. Carl's daughter, Mary Jo Dillon, is the owner of the 16 Advance at Rollag. Carl started on this carving on steam school weekend this year. It is just incredible that he did this all by hand in that short of a time.

He has started on the next one and he is thinking of either the Gaar Scott or the American Able. Don't worry, the Avery has also been talked about and I'm sure it will also be done at some time.

This is just another example of how fortunate we are at Rollag to have so many talented individuals doing their own thing to make our show so special.

You should see the miniture carrousel horses he carved for his grandchildren, who happen to be my children.

Tom,
How about a few pictures of the horses he carved?

My busy schedule did not allow me to pay the attention I wanted to the forum as well as other things. This is really a great addition to a great exhibit.

Mark, I think the term you are looking for is "rounding boards".

Tom, Pictures of the horses, if possible, would be a great addition to this thread.:) I hope you get the opportunity to post some.

Rick

Carl has started on his next carving. He is carving the smokebox cover from the American Able. Does anybody out there know what the correct colors are for the American Able? A color picture of some of their original sales catalogs would really be appriciated.
