Has it been decided what weekend in November woodcutting day will be? I want to be sure I don't make a mistake and plan anything else for that day! I know last year's was Nov. 18th...is it the 17th this year? it would be the same weekend, then. Thanks.

That would be the best guess for now Casey. We won't know for sure until after the annual meeting, the last weekend of October.

I would like to have a pre-wood cutting day sometime before then. The wood bins are a mess... a lot of of bark, and other garbage in them I would like to clean out and burn somewhere before we put split wood back in them. If anyone would like to help clean it up, and you have a weekend in October that would work for you, let me know. I think if there are enough of us there, we could get it done in 1/2 a day.

Yeah, then we can get rid of all that rotten wood that won't even burn...it's too bad that we don't have the time to rack'n'stack the wood on pallets then tarp it...then people would just burn it that much faster if it burned nicely! :) I will hopefully be coming out there with a few friends and family to help, because they have heard all of my 'Rollag' stories and are interested in what it is all about. I'll be sure to bring my saw with a -sharp- chain; I feel the 20" bar might come in use with those huge tree trunks waiting to be cut up.

Mark,
Would the weekend of Oct 13 work? Typically woodcutting weekend is held the same weekend as our opening of deer season, and since I work for the Wis DNR I can never get it off to come to woodcutting day. I'd like to put some hours in this fall so would come up to help with the clean up. Let me know soon so I can put in for the weekend off. (I usually work 4 ten hour days over Fri thru Mon) Thanks---Todd

Ok, just read that the budget meeting is the 13th... tell me where the wood bins are, and I'll come up and get started on it. I'll bring a chainsaw along too.

The 13th is not going to work Todd... We are going to have to get the bobcat out, set up an elevator and a generator to run it, and if any of the above is behind locked doors, or needs fuel, there will have to be someone there who can gain access to it. I wonder if the following weekend, the 20th might work?

Most of this work is going to be moving the bark and garbage out of one bin... (not too much time) with the bobcat / grapple fork, and then picking through the north bin and getting the junk out of there, but saving the good stuff. I looked at it this past weekend, and the north bin is a mess... a big mess. If enough of us get together, we can probably get through it in a couple of hours.

Stay in touch here. Hopefully we can make something work.

Got your msg, Mark. I'll check at work and see if I can make the 20th work. Thanks!

I have figured out my calendar, and the third weekend in October (of the 20th) will work. Very well. I have no school the Thursday or Friday before that weekend, also. But I doubt anyone else will be there on a weekday this time of the year. Perhaps I could get an early start with cleaning out the wood bins and organizing what I can.

I am still hoping for this weekend Casey... actually only Saturday. Do you need a place to stay if you come over, or will you just come for the day. Going to be pretty cold to tent it then!

Tenting in October is no big deal. I mean, two years ago my Boy Scout troop had a winter camping planned, and the few days before it they were forecasting temps as low as -40, but I was ready...although I doubt I would have been comfortable. The only thing that can't happen in cold weather is getting wet. Outside of that, I can come up Friday, (I don't have a gate key, though:eek:) and get a head start on either of my two mentioned projects. Is the mill locked up tight in the off season? I better figure that out first. If I really cannot find anything to do, a day trip is fine, too.

OK folks... If the weather is good (no rain) this Saturday, I will be on the show grounds. It is my goal to clean out both wood storage bunkers in preparation for wood cutting weekend, which will be sometime in November, probably the third weekend.

If you can make it, all you should need is a good pair of gloves. I don't anticipate actually cutting any wood, though there may need to be something cut to get it out of the way. If you want to throw in your chain saw, that would be great, but again... the emphasis is cleaning up the area!

Hi Mark,

What time are you planning on starting?

Later,

I'll probably be there by 8:00. I might have to do a little work for the Longs over by the Ortner train with the Bobcat first, but that should not take to long to get done.

Katy and I will be on the grounds tomorrow (Saturday the 20th) by 8AM if all goes as to plans.

We will be helping the longs drill a few post holes neat the Ortner train, and then getting after the clean up near the wood pile, in preparation for the wood cutting weekend in November.

Bring gloves, rakes, and a pitch fork or two if you have them.

Katy is making up some barbecue for lunch, so that will be provided. Bring whatever you want to drink. There is water on the grounds, but only at the winter well by the administration building. The only working bathroom is the block potty on the west end of miniature land.

I hope to finish up by early afternoon.

Hope to see afew folks there... and thanks!

Now that the Annual Meeting has come and past, what is the decided day for the official Woodcutting day? I'm so excited!!:bannana: There is tons of cordwood and slabwood for the cutting this year, and since we have the freshly cleaned woodbins, let's fill them to the brims!

Saturday is the day.

We normally are there before 9:00 and finish about 2:00 with a hot lunch served after.

Hi everyone! I am just bumping this thread to the top. See you out at the hill! =D As the earlier posts say, it will be from 9-2. Bring a good pair or leather gloves and some woodcutting tools. :bannana:Pray for favorable weather! :praying:(by that I mean frozen ground...makes it easier for working, eh?:))
