Welcome to lifetime (all his life!) member of the WMSTR, Donald Clarke to the WMSTR Forum!
Donald is currently a little busy, so he may not get much time to post. He is serving our country in Iraq... Right in Baghdad of all places!
Thanks for your service Donald, :congrats: and we'll see you on the hill this summer!

Don,
Welcome to the forum. I hope you get some down time to give us some posts. I do not suppose there are a lot of old steam engines over there but I am sure there will be some things on your mind you will want to share.

All;
Thanks to Mark Kerkvleit for his support in setting up this forum, and for supporting Donald and myself while we are deployed in the AOR(Area Of Responsibility). This area includes Iraq, Afghanistan, Kyrgystan, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE (United Arab Emirates), which is where I am. Donald is in Baghdad, and I am at the base outside Abu Dhabi, UAE. We both have been in the AOR since mid January, and both of us will be home in May. Donald is Civil Engineering, and works in the utilities area, and I am a Logistics Planner. I basically do planning to move people and cargo throughout the AOR by airlift. We both work 12 hour days, 6 days a week, cause the war doesn't stop for days off, at least not here. Both of our bases are very safe, with Baghdad International where Donald is being heavily defended. We have a very high operations tempo here, lots of flying going on, and I really can't say any more about it on the forum, I will save that for later. The weather in both locations is warm right now, in the 80's during the day, 50's at night. By mid April, our temps will be in the high 90's, and when we leave here in mid May, in the 110-120 range, rather toasty. The scenery around here is quite barren, lots of sand, and not much vegetation. We visited the city of Abu Dhabi last week, and I was quite impressed, a very clean and modern city, and has quite an American influence everywhere you look. More to come on that. I will close for now, and be watching for new posts. Thanks to all. Bob Clarke.

Bob, Thanks for the post. hearing things like this kind of make me a little more tolerable of paying taxes. UAE, is that where they have made new big islands out of sand shaped like a pineapples for resort areas?
