The Lull's engine was tired. At an earlier work weekend a crew had removed the Ford 6 cylinder engine from the Lul and Peter Mandt took the engine with him to overhaul it. To remove the engine the lift assembly had to be removed first. After the engine was removed, the lift was temporarily put back on to clear the space in Jim's shop. In the first picture you can see the lift has been taken off once again so the engine can go back in.

Pete is doing final inspection on something. The engine can be seen sitting on the floor behind him. The lift has just been set on the floor.

Jim is bringing the overhead crane back to pick up the engine.

More pieces get bolted back on. If you look carefully, six people can be seen in this picture.

Kind of like in a Frankenstein movie, "IT LIVES!" The engine is gettng warmed up and fluids are getting final inspection.

The work weekends at Larson Welding are a lot of fun, and are a great opportunity to make improvements and do maintenance on show owned equipment. Hours worked on show equipment count towards your work hours for active membership, and for your camping hours obligations!

Thanks for the excellent series of threads Jerry!

i'm so glad this has been repaired. the lull died on me while using it twice and how frustrating when it wouldn't start till letting it set. luckily i was not in a "bad way" at the time.

it'd have been nice to know when this repair weekend happened before hand. are they normally in the middle of the month on the weekends?

thanks for the photos jerry.

Wow, Many thanks to the crew who redid the engine. I know it's a huge asset to us down in the TMB for setting up seating and receiving all the pallets of food for the consessions stand. I'll be thrilled to have access to a once-again-reliable machine on the hill!
