The baker depot as well as all depots are under the control of the "Depot Division" of the railroad.

I'm not sure whose in charge of it, but last time I heard it needs a lot of work. The toy museum crew thought of it for a prospective place for the future antique toy exhibit.
...?

I think this division is led by Boyd Ferrell now. He is a member of this forum, and uses his name as his user name if anyone wishes to PM him. Boyd may be working with Butch Kracht from Enderlin. Maybe Butch is still in charge, but I think he is giving more of that responsibility to Boyd. In either case, Boyd can help you.

It is the intention of the Depot Agents to keep the depots as working railroad exhibits. The Baker indeed needs some help.
We will be posting weekends to work on the Baker. We need to trap some animals and seal up the access holes. Then we need to do some deep cleaning and probably some shingles. The intention of the Depot division is to eventually have the Baker a part of Main street to have the 353 stop by similar to the Hickson.

I do not mean to rain on anyones parade but the depots are being used for depots and will be as long as there is a depot division. The Baker does indeed need work and it is the intention of several volunteers to spif it up this year. We need to keep the depots a period display. That is what they were brought to the grounds for and the Depot agents want to keep them that way.

Rick,
You aren't 'raining on anyone's parade'. Like I said, it was just an idea we had at one point. If you have other location suggestions for us, we'd sure appreciate some input on that.

that would be sweet. :)
I know there are a few people who would love to get a toy train scale model of the showgrounds set up. We'd LOVE to have it as part of the toy museum if we can find a permanent location.

I, Boyd Ferrell, am in charge of the Baker and Hickson depots this year.
Sorry for such a long delay in getting on this forum. The following items need to be accomplished:
Both depots need to be re-shingled.
Bury an underground communication cable between Hickson and Baker for the telegraph and a telephone system. (The overhead wire on the poles keeps getting torn down each year. This will eliminate that problem. Also this will allow a phone circuit just between the two depots so we can untilize the old-time railroad phone equipment that people have donated.)
Baker needs the overhead cleaned. Wild animals have used this depot as living quarters and it's definitely a health hazard with all the manure that has accumulated in this overhead.
Baker should be banked up around it with crushed rock or gravel or some other method of keeping the animals out of the building until it is finally moved to its new location.

further comment:
Anyone willing to help accomplish the previously mentioned tasks would certainly be appreciated. I plan on being at Rollag May 26 thru June 1.
If volunteer help wants to commence earlier, we could certainly do that.
My phone number is 218-835-7719, if you want to talk on phone.

We will re-shingle Baker but just repair Hickson around the chimney where it's been leaking. Tnx.

Welcome Boyd and thanks for the posts. As your work dates get closer I will see what I can do to help out.
