The MSEA Spring Steam Up is April 5th, just under 2 weeks away now!

Jeff's Minneapolis return flue should be there, as well as the Larson's Russell... 2 of the engines you have been watching on this forum! Mark Pedersen's 40 Avery boiler will be there, and Jim and Kenneth's new "home brew" vertical boiler with 2 engines" contraption (not sure what they call it) and the Anton Resset Steam Car donated by the Martin family (not sure if Tom figured out how to fire it yet).

I am sure there will be other displays there as well. no doubt Wimpy will be doing Model T burn outs for entertainment, and I am also sure that Jerry will have his Blue (Prony) Brake there.

If anyone knows of any other plans, please post them here.

One of the best parts for me is the lunch served by the ladies!

Pray for good weather, and we'll see you there!

Is Mark P going to bring the 40 Avery down as finished unit? If so, those guys have really put in time!

Is the engine from New Rockford (a Nicholls and Sheppard??) that was worked on last winter going to be running for Steam Up?

If Mark has a completed engine there, then I have really been left out of the loop!:biglaugh:

The boiler is still sitting there, and I think he is pretty much done with that phase... all it needs is some studs replaced and sandblast / paint job. I think the engine will be going on hold for a while as he has some farming to do that will be taking up a majority of his time for the spring / summer.

I forgot about Isabell's Nichols. I think that engine is ready to run too. I think Tesse has a Garr-Scott in for some plumbing and engine work too. That one may be running as well!

It might get kind of crowded around there! :bannana:

GALOSHES!?!?! Come on, Crystal. Lets be more optimistic than that! How about a 45 to 50 degree day with little or no wind and sunshine.

Leave your galoshes at home. ;)

Is the Gaar-Scott the unrestored 25 HP with extension rims that came out of Saskatchewan?

Thanks,
Mike

We'll be bringing some "stuff" from the west if the Lord is willing and creek don't rise! Couple engines and a prony brake. Maybe give Kenneth's outfit a workout if he wants.

I can hardly sleep nights to think of the excitement of the first get together!!!

See ya there.
Ray and crew.

Mike,
I don't think so. This one has some paint on it. It looks like they build a new side water tank for it when I drove by last week. I will get some pics if I can.

This is a special event for MSEA as they are celebrating their 30 year anniversary. Thats right. it was thirty years ago this April that a group of concerned steam men and women from accross the state formed the organization. The stated purpose for the association is as follows:

"To foster and perpetuate interest in the steam engine hobby, to assist in the education of new engineers in the safe and responsible operation of steam engines and their boilers, and to provide a voice to represent steam enthusiasts with regard to legislation affecting the steam engine hobby."

Over the years there have been a number of changes that effect the operation and inspection of steam engines that have been a direct result of the efforts of the MSEA. Some of the changes have been through legislative changes and some have been through a cooperative effort with the inspection department. We are very fortunate in Minnesota as we have had boiler inspection for over 125 years and we have always had licensing requirements. We have a great safety record and we also have a good educational program for new operators.

As far as we know the MSEA was the first association of it's kind in the country, and it has been a model for many more states that have formed similar associations.

Even if you are not an engine owner or operator, please consider becoming a member of MSEA. The dues are only $5.00 per year and there are monthly meetings from November to May at different locations around the state. The meeting this Saturday would be a great time to get your membership and become a member of this important organization.

The perspective in this the photo a couple posts above is odd. Is that a scale model 110?

This the picture your talking about MrGoat?

Good eye! It is a scale model 110, owned by David Fie of Watertown, SD. It is an immaculate build, and of course 100% operational. He has had it at Rollag a couple of times.

I started a new thread for pictures of the 2008 MSEA Steam Up, and moved Slugger's and Jerry's posts there.

You can find it here...

Mike this is his other double, the one i believe came From Danny Roen many years ago. you can see it in the other MSEA thread, and i think Korys dad is in that pic too:D that engine is clutch-less in the picture, so im not sure if it ran? Jim hauled all that stuff down to Korys a few months ago since they were missing it all. but i think Korys just going to make the flywheel and pin it. he said you could build half another steam engine by the time you made all those clutch linakages and shoes etc!:biglaugh: And I/We know all about that engine requiring Tons of extra work:banghead3::soapbox:

Mark i was there in 03 and 05. weather was beautiful at both years if i remember right:cool: how come they didn't have it a week later? heard the cold was unbareable. figured since it was 45 and decent here it woudl be better there. but im glad it was still a good day over all for everone!

You are correct Colin. I asked Jim about the Garr-Scott, and it did come from Danny. It did not run on Saturday.

As for the WX and the date... both out of my control! Sure wish you could have made it so it would have been nicer!:biglaugh: Actually, it was not that bad. We are darn lucky it wasn't a day later, or the snow a day sooner!
