We had a great day at Steam Up. We got to see some blue sky during the day. We got to visit a lot of friends that we had not seen since last summer. As usual there were toys for the bigger kids to play with. A couple attractions were there for smaller kids, too.

We have to thank Jim and Lynette for thinking of the younger kids. Every year Jim spares no expense and pumps many gallons of water on his parking lot so that the kids will have something to do as you can see below. http://www.wmstrcommunityforum.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Ray W. brought his scale Case steam engine and hooked it to some 'barrel cars' that Ron S. made and brought and gave some rides.

I don't know the names of the operator or any of the riders.

Don't know the riders Jerry, but the operator is Blaine Karels, "BKarels" here on the forum.

Well we time that right as I look out my window and see acouple inches of the white stuff on the ground and more comming :bonk:I only hope everyone got home safe a sound and we'll see you all again soon

In an earlier post Crystal said she had her galoshes ready for the weekend.

During Steam Up she made it a point to show me her galoshes and I didn't get a picture of them. Did anyone get a picture of Crystal's galoshes they can post here?

If not, Crystal needs to get a picture posted!

Sorry we were pretty tied up with trying to learn how to run a Russell, so we don't have photos of everything that was going on. We tried to get a few pictures of things other than the Russell, but our camera is pretty full of red & yellow. Thanks Jim & Lynette for another great Steam Up, and also Jerry, for being so patient on the brake with a bunch of rookies.

This is Thursday prior to Steam Up. Eldon Held was helping me fine-tune the engine before our boiler inspection. Eldon is the son of Ed Held who bought this engine back in the 1950's.

Here's Kenneth with Old Smokey and he's doing a great job of firing the engine that's running Grandpa Jim's sawmill.

Future fireman for the Larson Russell. This is Craig's grandson, Layton. He was pretty proud of being able to throw some wood into the firebox.

In Slugger's Post #1, the picture of the Russell shows Eldon Held and his sister, Carolyn Thorkildson. The Larson's purchased the engine from Carolyn

Patience runs both ways, Clayton. Thanks for your patience during the "unbelting" and "rebelting" exercises!

The day went very well. Thanks to Jim T, Peter K and Dustin E for all the help with the brake.

Thanks to Jim and Lynette for hosting the event. Thanks to everyone that helped clean up and set up before Saturday and then clean up and tear down Saturday afternoon.

Clayton--Jane and all, Thanks for a good Steam up!! I did have to give you grief for your creative way of keeping the water on the crownsheet!! (for those that where not there, the ground was soft and after all the playing- the rear wheels had sunk about 6 inches) The glass was always perfect level and where it was supposed to be!!! Tim

I couldn't resist driving by the shop this morning on my way home!

What a difference a day makes!!!

Did you remember to drain your water glass Clayton?

Wow, did we ever get lucky on the weather! I drove in some of the worst conditions I have all winter last night on the way home from Sioux Falls. Spent about 25 minutes at 20 MPH near Summit, SD... Could not see! Near zero visibility! Last week it was 55 down there, and I had bugs on my windshield!

I am ready for spring!

It looks like we should be hanging christmas lights on it! you are so right we had good weather to enjoy the day. But now I dont think I will get it hauled as soon as I want due to really sloppy and soft gravel roads to my place with all this wet heavy snow.:(

I took a lot of pictures, but many of the subjects are already represented here. I will post some of my better ones, and some of the subjects not already covered here.

The MSEA Ladies worked all morning to prepare a dinner for us. It was delicious! I think they sold 215 tickets, and had to turn some away as they ran low on chicken. This event is growing every year!

Here, some of the ladies prepare the plate loads of food, while others line up to deliver the meals to hungry people seated at the tables.

Here is a look at the overflow crowd!

With a readout like this, you get a pretty accurate report on what your engine will do. (Certain Avery engines make this box read "Tilt") :biglaugh:

That's all for now!

Thanks everyone for all of the great pictures!
