I am in the finishing stages of my first tractor restoration. It is a 1936 John Deere Model A.

This is what it looked like when I got it.
I bought it from a salvage yard in Barnesville, MN. The only thing it had going for it was the fact that it ran and the tires held air.

I stripped it all down, shot it with a coat of primer, then I put it all back together so I could get it into the shop for the winter. Once it got warm out again I continued work on it with many new parts such as front wheel bearings, front tires, steering wheel, the correct exhaust pipe (on order), and a few other odds and ends.

I have all the lettering painted yellow on the axle, radiator, shift cover, flywheel and I painted the JD symbols on the tractor yellow as well.

Here is what it looks like so far.

I still need to put decals and the correct exhaust system on it yet, and a few finishing details too. Any questions, feel free to ask

Nice looking "A" Cody. How does it run? I bet you had to do some carburetor work after years of sitting around. Do you plan to do anything with the rear wheels... I suppose the correct ones are hard to find.

Looking forward to seeing you and the A this fall at the expo!

It already had a rebuilt carb on it when I got it. The Wheels are going to stay the way they are for now. (Tires are $800 for a pair of 36's) I can get brand new ones from a place in Wisconsin, but they run about $1900 bucks for a pair. It runs pretty decent since I repaired the mag. Its got that awesome 2 cylinder sound, even with no muffler on it.

Does anyone know the correct decal placement for an unstyled A? I have my decals for it finally.

They didn't come with instructions as to where to place them Cody? It has been so long since I bought decals.

If you can't find the information, I can get you a phone # of a guy who will be able to tell you. Let me know...

If you can't find the information, I can get you a phone # of a guy who will be able to tell you. Let me know...The only instructions I got with them is how to apply them to the tractor. I know where the smaller decals go, I am just not sure on the placement of the large decals on the hood. If you know a guy that has that info, that would be awesome. Thanks!

Very nice A! I'm still working on my 1949 A, not finished yet, but I hope to get it done sometime this year.

Andy.

Nice A Cody. Did you get it from Biewer's tractor salvage. I've been there and anyone can get Just about any part for most gas and diesel tractors. They also have implements of many brands. check out their web site. http://www.salvagetractors.com/ :) :smilie_flagge13:

Your welcome to all who find Biewer's helpful.
