Has there ever been any thought to recycling on the hill? With the amount of aluminum cans we go thru over the summer, work weekends or showtime, I would think we could help out Mother Nature (and maybe she won't toss as many storms at us) by recycling our cans for starters? Maybe have one of those giant cages we can turn in for deposit and put the earnings back into the general fund? - That way everyone can help contribute to the development.

Just an idea, maybe it's been tried in the past, maybe not?

we've discussed this over beer and steaks down by the camper. build a steam powered (or gas engine)can crusher and there you have a display that makes money(a little at least) I think most of the can generation would come from the camping area's -from what I see it's bottle pop on the showgrounds. Find out what brand of beer is popular. what the heck go a little green and make a few bucks both sides covered

I would suggest we build a recyling shack like most counties have around. We all need to take responsibility for not wasting resources. Paper, plastics, glass and metals can all be sorted.

Can we place recylcing barrells around concessions for the plastic bottles. Most paper garbage from food is not good for recylcing but to get the plastic would be good.

If we can't embark on this ourselves maybe we can work with the counties recylcing program.

Any project like this can be cost effective by reducing Garbage Pickup cost and/or proceeds from selling the sorted materials.

Having a recycling area which could take all forms (glass, plastic, aluminum) is an excellent idea.
How about having at least two (3?) in various locations?

There is a part of the "Destructor" in me which thinks that it would be "ah-cool" to see a steam hammer set up as a can crusher. The aluminum cans could be picked up at the recycling area(s) and taken to the hammer. Visitors could see a new use for an antique tool.

I believe this is a very good idea! Definately something worth looking into. From other threads I've read, I think a good start would be to find some determined person to champion the project, perhaps grab some interested committee members, get a rough plan together (recycling options and companies available to service the effort) and bring that plan to the board and get their take on the idea. It may be a daunting task overall, but well worth the effort!
