Does anyone know how to tighten up the steering on a model A John Deere? I can turn the steering wheel about a third of a turn before the front wheels move? Any help would be great! thanks.

How is the steering sector gear and bearings?

I replaced the bearings on the steering shaft and it is like new again

That's nice to hear. I just fixed the steering on a B, took the bearings and bearing cap/shims off a parts B that had good steering and it steers nicely now.

I went to the John Deere dealer here and they had new bearings for it. It was 40 bucks for 2 bearings, but it was worth the money to have a tractor that steers properly now. I no longer have 3/4 of a turn for play in the steering wheel.
