Casey,
There are always a lot of engines fired on steam school weekend. Usually the 353 (RR Locomotive) is running too.
Doc Parker's Minneapolis, Doc Knutson's Minneapolis, Jim Briden's Avery, as well as WMSTR's 50 and 75 Case engines. There are others as well. The steam school instructors allow time for the students to go out and operate the engines and learn from the engineers. You get real "hands on" experience. I am one of the engineers on Jim's Avery, and we usually have it belted up to Earls sawmill for at least part of that weekend. There will also be engines on the Prony Brakes.
Are you going to be there this year?

CaseyD and all others,
The plan is to fire the Montana Boiler and run the Pabst Engine,Villuame(spelling?) Engine and prbobably the aircompressor in the Villuame building.
Mark K is planning on firing the boiler in the Freeport building and running the Freeport Engine and possibly other engines in the Freeport building, too.

I'm afraid the Maidenform ran amok one fall. The amok circut has since been disabled.

I hope this is the right place to post this message...
We are planning on running the 30-90 Russell for steam school, does anyone know when the steam engines are going to be pulled out? Also we were wondering if the Boiler License Exam is going to be given at Steam School this year?

The exam is usually given on Monday morning following steam school.
The engines that will be used will very probably be pulled out the weekend before steam school weekend.

Yes the license exam is being given. It is at 9:00 am the Monday after steam school. My wife just got her confirmation from the state back in the mail that she is all set to take the exam.

Darren,
In case others want to know, what did your wife do so that she can take the test? Do you have an address and/or contact person?
Later,
Jerry

I confirmed with Tom Hall back around the first of the year that they were scheduled to give the exam like they normally do. We just filled out the application to the state that she got at steam school last year and for the exam location and date put Hawley/Rollag and June 18 9:00 AM. She had her affadavits signed and notarized, put a check in for the fees and in about a week she got a letter from the Dept of Labor saying the application was accepted and she was scheduled to take the test at that time. I think that the forms may be available on line, but we used the one she got last summer. This is the same proceedure I followed when I took my test. If I remember right that location and date is not listed on the Dept of labor's official list of test dates and times, you just need to write it in. Tom gives a good review session the Sunday evening before the test.

There is a time limit on when you can apply for each test. You have to have your money and documents submitted in advance. Not at steam school.:)

We will pull out engines Friday morning, June 8. I appreciate knowing about the Russell being used!
Regarding testing, 40AVERY is a wise man! You have to make arrangements with the MN guys to take the test! Don't show up with all the paperwork expecting to take the test unless you have contacted them well in advance.

We are planning on coming up Friday morning before Steam School to get the Russell ready to steam. I wish we could make it up there this weekend to help pull the engines out, but have other commitments.
Thanks to all on the advice about the license exam, I passed the information on to the interested party.
