Hello!

I thought I would start this out by opening up the table to get an opinion from the musicians who have participated in the pre-show jamboree in the TMB. Over the past few years, it has been held over the Saturday, Sunday or Monday prior to the show, and this year, I thought it would be great to utilize the Forum get gather feedback from members before Karl makes up the flyers (and get out some advance notice)

Maybe Karl can add a little insight as well to this thread with some possible date ideas, and then we can setup a poll for us to vote on which date would be most convenient. - Understandably, one single date will not in all likelyhood work for everyone, but the date chosen will try to include as many people as possible.

Thanks,

Jerry Christiansen

Tim,

This is a great idea. As a non-musician I think it is important to get the word out early and often about the Jamboree. I know that I have missed the music in the past because I all ready had plans by the time I heard about it.

As a member that usually has to work the week (well at least the Monday through Thursday) before the show, my vote would be for Saturday night.

As a non-musician my vote may not count for much, but you got my two cents worth.

Jerry

i started this event back in 1999 and held it on saturday, the weekend before the show, in the evening from 7pm till 11pm. two years ago, i believe, i changed the day to monday the week of the show. for the reasons the last time it was held on saturday the weekend before the show, we ended up having more musiciains than people coming in to listen. it is much easier on tim and myself setting up for this event. also, with tuesday "nursing home day", i figured more musicians would be around to come and play music.

i have always thanked the musicians who do come and play for this event. we always have a variety of music.

tim and myself are the main ones usually setting up for this event. granted there has been greatly appreciated help from a few other members. this event would not happen without the help of tim dachtera. thanks again tim:bannana:

the first 3 or 4 years, there was a very good turn-out. even during one show, i had the then current president, peter keiffer, come up and give a speech. interest in this event now has declined dramatically.

now maybe i'm a littlle selfish, but i named this event "workers jamboree" to give the workers a chance to come listen, visit with other worker members you're not able to during the show, and for the worker members to enjoy themselves before the show. this being said, i was not wanting this event date to become to close to the wmstr show opening.

i would like to see a poll. it's no problem at all changing the day of this event back to saturday before the show. the only problem is having the inside floor prepped and the help needed to setup by saturday night.

i really would not want this event to happen any closer than tuesday night the week of the show. i just thought a night during the week of the show was easier. since most everyone takes this week as vacation for the wmstr show.

i also remeber potato days, in barnesville, is the same saturday. but also, to have more musicians show an interest in this event. granted, everybody likes to be personally invited to play. i would hope this being a "wmstr pre-event" all musicians should realize they have an open invitation to come and play.

Karl does make a valid point, Depending on what machines are still in the TMB on that Saturday, or Monday can sometimes play into how much work we need to setup the TMB for sound. Also the last few years, we have done significant improvements to the TMB sound, rebuilding the booth after the storm, adding more speakers, etc..

I shall try and setup a poll this weekend for a Saturday->Tuesday option of what is preferred for the music.

Tim,

If machinery is a problem please let us know. We generally have a lot of volunteers at that time that we can put to work getting things out of the way.

Thanks,

first off, i thought i'd give a brief description of the process involved to get up set-up and running....
prep the dirt floor then spray water on it to soak (thanks to gary muhl)... let soak during the day while pulling off benches from the stage. clean the cement pads, then pull out collapsible seating, install railing, and flip-up seats. after possibly having to regrade floor, set up enough cinder block and board seating on the floor for the night. setup the stage with all microphones, microphone stands, all the mic cords, set up and "trim" the mics after the mixer gets set up and all cables plugged in. just to give an idea. before the most recent years, i've been doing alot of this myself. sure am glad tim is around to help! now, i've probably missed some stuff but you can see this is a chore to get done. definitely there has been a few who have helped throughout the years and i thank you.

saturday night, the week before the show, i thought was okay until i started seeing a decline in people showing up. also, i had to take off work on friday so i would have this time to set up for the jam. i believe it was inconveniant for tim also.

sunday night, the week before show, might not be a bad idea. it would give me the weekend to get set up and also i wouldn't have to take friday off from work. just not sure if people would come out on a sunday night.

monday night, well... we are already doing this. plus it works out well for both tim and myself. in case we need to do some extra work which we had overlooked.

tuesday night, could be a possibility. then again it is during the week and so far it sounds like people would want this to happen on the weekend before the show.

Tim,

If machinery is a problem please let us know. We generally have a lot of volunteers at that time that we can put to work getting things out of the way.

as all machinery is moved out two weeks before the show. machinery being in the way for me hasn't been much of a problem. sometimes there are problems with a tractor or two not starting but normally the owners are there on this weekend getting the piece of equipment out. whenever i've needed things moved, i''ve always been able to find help to get the job done.

a side note... it's always been very interesting these last few years with the placement of the ice trailer. i think we've finally found a good spot for it now. outside on the south end of the tmb. to take advantage of the electrical outlet specifically for the refrigeration unit on this trailer.

tim, i hope you get a poll going to find out what night people would want this event to occur. i started the worker's jamboree and would like to have it continue. i'm interested to see how the response will be about the day people would like to have this event happen.
