Wow, take a look at these websites. And here I thought working on insanely huge commutated motors and generators was a lost art. Apparently not.

Though this is probably the situation of some high specialized industry using ultra-heavy-duty hardware which literally cannot be replaced except by re-engineering the whole system.
For these engineering firms, if you have the money, they have the time. And if you have to ask what it costs to do this, you probably cannot afford it. :rof:
