Just wanted to post a quick pic of the roundhouse progress so far. I'm guessing the building will go up fast since the concrete walls are up!

Dawn,
I think you may have posted the wrong picture. This appears to be a squarehouse, not a roundhouse.

Sorry Dawn (Per PM)! Saw this thread after I sent it!

Trust me Darren... it's round! It's going to be one cool exhibit after Ortner crew and Merlyn Meyer and the Earls Mill crew add their touch!

I see the unmistakeable top of a GoPro case in the bottom of your picture Dawn! This must mean there is a time lapse presentation coming?

More Pictures of the progress:

Pour day - We missed this unfortunately, but Karl Grefsrud and his strapping young sons did a fantastic job of prepping, forming, pouring and finishing the concrete walls. Many thanks to them for all their work! We are hoping we recruited a few more members!! Thanks too to Peter and Pat Masley for being available when we couldnt be there. Their return to MN timing couldnt have been better!!

This is something not seen often in the wild, out in the open. A very RARE glimpse of Peter sitting down. Ya! I know. I didn't realize he could do that either. I jest, but Peter is one of the reasons we get so much done when he puts our minds to it! He keeps us from just going back to the camper and lighting a fire. You all know what I mean! :) Down in the corner is Pat's finger. That reminds me to THANK her for all the fantastic pictures (especially this uncommon one!) you rock, Pat. And if I do say, you have a very attractive finger....

Dan loves the Cadillac. He's the king of getting around in that tight space. One would think it would be VERY easy to slip up and bump the walls. Promise, that didnt happen. If I didnt get a picture of it, it didnt happen.

Peter sent me these pictures of them building the rafters. Thanks to Peter, Merlyn, Kerry and Howie for helping with this task. We were sorry to miss this too (darn work and home stuff really gets in the way of the fun stuff!).

Howie is rockin' wood cutter (yes, that is the technical term).

Hey! that looks like a rafter! Fantastic!

Some final words on this project so far. I have to send out many thank you's to all involved. I wish I could remember EVERYONE that has had a hand in this progress, but you all know who you are. This project has been a fantastic feat of teamwork. Many thanks across the grounds for the help, guidance and support. It's going to be a handsome exhibit. More to come!

The concrete bucket for the BOBCAT looks interesting, Will that stay on the grounds or is it borrowed?
The progress looks very good, good help, good supervision can't ask for anything better.
Looks like Merlyn has a good crew on the rafters, and looks like it will be in the dry in no time.

Outstanding!

See... you promise Merlyn that he doesn't have to touch concrete, or shingles.... or sheetrock :)... and things start happening! You could not be in better hands! I knew if you guys got those (concrete) walls up, you would have an exhibit this year! I'm really looking forward to seeing it done!

I suppose you're going to want a light bulb and an outlet in there...:Shrugs: Better meet with Mr. Stoltz soon. Maybe Steam school weekend?

That Bobcat and the bucket belong to the concrete guys Jim. The concrete bucket was cool, and would be a good accessory to have on hand for ours. Probably could build one for ours if we cannot find one somewhere.

Bet it would work good pouring concrete in existing buildings around existing displays :)...

Is that rounder enough for you Darren?

Yes! Power would be great! Wood walls going up starting tomorrow.... Yee haw!

We made Merlyn do concrete work yesterday! We were off a bit on the front so we had augment a bit. He was a good sport!! Can't thank him enough - he rocks!

Keep posting photo's, good progress has been made so far this year and keep on schedule.
I am surprised as to the progress, good help, plenty of material, and good supervision.
Much better then last year but we do learn a lot over the winter:bonk:.

"Is that rounder enough for you Darren?"
OK, I concede Dawn. I guess it can be called a roundhouse now. :)
All kidding aside, it really looks good. That is going to be a great addition.
Darren

Kerry ponders life after digging Panama Canal to drain Lake Mead after a big rain. You can just tell by the look on his face he's satisfied with his accomplishment. After draining, we were able to get back to work.
