winter jam????

I was just thinking at work today that it would be fun to have a winter jam session or even a regular monthly or more jam session to help bring up the next generation of rollag pickers. beginner level and up with maybe some of the older crew who would be willing and patient enough to help. Not alot of young folks involved and many who do not know where to start, myself included sometimes. It would really help if there was some sort of list of "standard" songs in the old time, bluegrass, gospel, classic country, in the spirit of the hill type stuff.
Is there anything like this already going on? I havent gone down the MBOTMA road, it seems like 99% of that all happens in the twin cities.

I don't know what "MBOTMA" means, so I will take your word for it that it happens in the Twin Cities

Sounds like you could be onto something, if you can get enough folks interested! Maybe Tim will stop by here and point you in the right direction as to who to contact to get something started!

There is a group that gets together in the Fergus Falls Mall the 1st Sunday of every month for a jam session. On average there are a dozen or so people who play a variety of music (gospel, bluegrass, country, etc.) and a variety of instruments. These folks have been getting together for 18 or so years and last we heard, have only missed one Sunday! Some of them have played at the Blacksmith shop at Rollag. There is also part of this group and others that play the 3rd Thursday of each month at "The Spot" in downtown Fergus Falls, and they play mostly Keltic music. We've been to listen to them several times at the mall and it's a lot of fun. They seem to welcome new musicians, and always love more of an audience.

hmm I knew about the celtic jam but didnt know about the jam in the mall..might have to sneak over there, fergus falls is dooable..
there is a monthly jam in erhard mn but they shut it down for the winter, nobody wanted to drive in the crap....

Not sure I have much to add on top of what's been added. I'm a techie myself. Seems the music talent stuck with cousin Nick and Gramma.

I do know we need more musicians in the TMB during the show. Need more music for the DVD!

Hi Tim, Seeing you live in Cottage Grove We have a concertina Club that meets the last Wedesday of the month at the Red Barn. We also play a few dances at the VFW in So.St.Paul.We have a 15 min. meeting and than Jam till 10.00.Starts after 7.00. Ted
