Steam Up 2019

I'm stuck in Steele tonight Monte... I don't think ANY of out drivers who left this afternoon got back. One of them has been in Watertown, SD since 1PM Wednesday!

I am sick of my job!

Hi all,
If you were planning on coming to Steam Up, but you were concerned about the weather and the snow, pack up your toys and come to Fargo.

Steam Up 2019 is on and will happen tomorrow.

If you get bored with steam engines and things, I have been told there will be snowman and snow fort building contests. Judges and prizes have not been chosen at this time.

Later,
Jerry Christiansen

The forecast looks quite a bit better for tomorrow. 40s with "plenty of sun" according to AccuWeather. Hopefully this white medium covering everything will disappear fast and we can just go back to the annual ditch digging in the parking lot. See you all tomorrow!

Hi all,
Another successful Steam Up! A small group of us met at the Village Inn at 6:00am for breakfast. After a bunch of coffee we made the trip to Larson Welding and found some early risers.

Jack was steaming the 1/2 scale 110.

The Case raffle tractor was present. Tickets were available for purchase.

More coffeeholics at work on coffee and doughnuts.

The 50 horse was in the west bay with a fire all ready lit.

Another shot of the 110.

A group was gathering outside. The open doors on the right indicate the 50 horse is about ready to come out

Plenty of snow. At least the concrete wasn't muddy.

As usual, kids playing in the mud puddles. Yes, this picture is out of chronological order. You can tell because the west bay door is closed.

If you look close at the window on the left, you can see the big, orange cat. That building is north across 1st Ave. The cat was in the window a lot during the day watching us.

Same mud puddle, different kids playing.

We had a great, sun filled, warm windless day.

This is as close to a video as you will get of the 50 horse coming out of the shop.

Al S was on the controls bringing the tractor out.

After a while of sitting, boiling water and being admired, we belted it to the Prony Brake. We had a bunch of people standing in line holding the belt up to keep it out of the mud.

Another view of the 50 horse belted up.

A look right down the belt.

Wish I could have made it, looks like a great time! What a mess for weather and work. I wonder how Al got out of that wedding long enough to drive a steam engine? HMMMM

When I left Al at 4:30 am Saturday morning to play photographer for prom prior to the wedding, he was sleeping peacefully. We were blessed that the hotel AND bride and groom were insistent that all they wanted was for us “to show up” and not worry about details. It was a great distraction and time passer for him to steam on Saturday prior to watching his oldest take that vow.... and never in his wildest dreams did he think he deserved to be on that 50 for its roll out at Steam Up. However, he was thrilled! All went well, he made it back in time to get ready for the wedding and he slept REAL well Saturday night! Sometimes things just work out without even trying I guess?!?
