I hope everyone is staying warm and safe during this snow, chilly, windy weather.
Sun is out now and doesn't seem to bad.
Take care all.

Hi Karl,

It looks a lot better outside today than yesterday.

I sure do like the cab on my snow blower.
I like the snow blower better when I don't have to use it.

To many hours and a lot of crabby tax payers that do not understand what it takes to get the job done.
Have spent a few days in the blower. We all started early today ( as with most days) to try and get enough done so we could get at least one day off. This is making for a long white winter. Guys and gals .........it is only half way through January.

This is at 6:30 am opening a road with stranded vehicles in the center of the road.

Another plugged road that the trucks could not get through due to the drifts being like concrete.

This one was the deepest and longest, 3/4 of a mile and someone else tried to open it up. We all got over everything and opened up, so we should get a day off as long as the wind stays down.

Jerry, sounds like you could bring your blower over and help us out.

Clayton,

In the third picture you said you had to blow ¾ of a mile. Let’s do a bit of figuring and see how long that would take with my snow blower.

Your snow blower looks to be about 8 feet wide. Mine is about 2 feet wide. I would have to make 4 trips to clear what you clear in one trip. Your ¾ of a mile becomes 3 miles for me.

According to Wikipedia, the average walking speed for humans is about 3 mph. Folks, that means it will take you 20 minutes to walk one mile. Give that a try. It isn’t like wandering around the mall.

For the sake of this conversation, let’s suppose when going down a straight sidewalk with my snow blower I can average 1 mph. I would ONLY need 3 hours to clear that road. I can tell you that when my blower is running that hard for 3 hours, I will need to refill the fuel tank at least once.

My blower stands about 20 inches tall. When I get into banks that are more than a couple feet tall, I need to do some stopping, backing up and hitting it again. Sometimes I need to get a shovel out and knock the top of the drifts down to my height. In that case, I would a lot more that 3 hours.

May be you misunderstood when I said my snow blower has a cab. A picture is worth 1000 words. Here is my 1992 Yard Man Snow Wolf 8 Hp blower.

When a friend (Ok, you folks know I don’t have those. Actually, it was one of my brothers) saw the cab on my blower, he said I needed to turn in my Man Card. Even though this cab does not have a heater, I am very glad my wife gave it to me for Christmas several years ago. When it falls apart, I will zip right out to Fleet Farm and pick up another one.

By the way Clayton, how many horsepower do you have on the blower?

A picture is indeed worth a thousand words. Anyone else craving a Budweiser right about now? By the way Clayton, the snow is leaking out of your big blower.

Clayton, no, I don't see a snowblower either, my eyes are fixated someplace else in the photo Jerry posted. Ha ha.

Honestly, Jerry, I do see a difference referring about this "man card" comment.
No picture for reference from Clayton, but I think he may be a little warmer snow blowing than you are walking inside of the flimsy 3ft upper cab attached to your snowblower. Ha ha ha. I'll say this, Jerry, your "man card" is just fine.

Sounds like a heat wave will be starting tomorrow (Tues.). Almost 35°F warmer. At least it won't be too cold when out delivering freight this week. The pallet jack in the back of the truck will be happy with the warmer temps.

Now for something positive. Correct me if I am wrong, but in about 60 short days we have Steam Up. Now that is something to look forward to. And isn't that also about the 1st day of Spring? It won't be long and we will be seeing Robins again. So, be of good cheer, nice weather is on the way. :)...

Clayton, Karl and John,
I will check my camera carefully for defects. When I looked through the view finder I could see a snow blower. I wonder what went wrong?

Karl,
Thanks for the assurance I don't need to hand in my Man Card. The cab my be flimsy, it certainly is not a ROPS, but it sure keeps the wind and snow off a person.

Sid,
You are counting days!?!? I am still counting work weekends. We have two more to go. One in February and one in March. After the March work weekend, I will start counting days. I wonder if enough snow will melt on the Hill so we can bring the Blue Brake to Steam Up.

Mark,
Did you get a package deal on the small snow thrower and the matching operator? Was that a Christmas special that I missed? I wonder how long it would take that worker to clear Clayton's 3/4 mile road.

Grand Daughter Alasia thought she had to help me on Saturday and I had just the right size piece of equipment to get her started in the business. She loved it and blew snow for about 30 minutes... it did take me some time convincing to get Grandma to go along with it, but eventually I won out.

3 pieces of my "fleet" are shown in this picture. The 4th (ATV with plow blade) is in another building. Shown here in the left foreground are "Medium Katy" with "Little Katy" (Alasia's machine) in the background folded up to go into the pickup under the roll up tarp to take to work with me.

Both of those are "on loan" from a good friend of mine who hails from Canada and owns a small engine shop in Winnipeg. He convinced me to try the small one a couple of years ago, and the bigger one showed up this fall. DON'T LAUGH! Those things move a lot of snow... and take the driveway right down to the concrete.

Of course when the going gets tough I have to get the GT out... 46" blower 27 HP and the blower uses it all up! It will launch snow 50' though... enough to share it with my neighbors if they get on my bad side. I do have a cab for the GT, but I have not put it on for years because I think it limits my visibility too much.

Clayton... How big of an engine is on that blower on that loader?... and have you turned Danger Boy loose with that thing?

Jerry... How do you get that poster past the board of directors? (Owner of everything you think you own)

Mark,

Good looking fleet of snow moving equipment.

I am not sure I understand your question. The only thing on the poster is a collage of bottle tops and a long neck bottle. I was disappointed, the description when I acquired it mentioned a girl. May the light has to be just right to see a girl. All I have ever seen is bottle tops and the long neck bottle.

Clayton,

Perhaps the county needs modern equipment like this.
Or green equipment like this fellow.

Did this time of no snow give you guys any time to fix equipment? Or, are you still widening roads and cleaning up messes?

Clayton,

Can you have it ready for February's Work Weekend ?

Oh, that's right, that is tomorrow. You might not be able to get it put together that quickly.
How about March Work Weekend? Or, is this a big enough event that the unveiling would warrant it's own special day?

I will have my camera ready,

Better yet make it for Tommy he would love the bike idea better. But I'll be there for the big unveiling.
