Hi everyone,
A grave of an Unknow Person is near the Plate Booth, the Steam Hammer and the Ox Cart Trail. Could it be a person that died on the Ox Cart Trail and is buried there? We don't know.
We decided to update the flower bed over the grave and make it easier to maintain. On Saturday, July 19 Seth H dug out the circle of rocks that had marked the grave and piled them off to the side.
Saturday, July 26, Seth H joined Jane and me in a sweat off and we started building a flower box above the grave.

The headstone, sign and the plant near the sign have not been moved yet. We started building the flower bed around these items.
You can see that the side closest to the Water Wheel has one full length tie and one half tie.

The circle of rocks was inside the box we built using railroad ties. A bit of dirt work had to happen to get the ties set in place. The back wall is two ties high in the left corner. The lower tie is only half length. The left side is similar. The lower tie is half length. We had to do a lot of digging to get the front tie in place. The tie that can be seen on the right side is sitting on another tie that is almost completely buried.

This is where we quit on Saturday. If you look by the tree in the background, you can see the pile of rocks mentioned earlier. A total of 9 ties. Two layers with 4 ties each and one tie cut in half in the back corner on the left. The headstone will not stay on top of the ties, it was put there so we could level the ground inside. That was quite a lift getting that up there! Thank you, Seth for these pictures and all the help on Saturday.
Thursday, July 30, Jane and I were back at the site.

We did some work with the little tiller you can see leaning against the tree behind the flower bed and got the ground inside fairly level.
.

A couple Bobcat bucket loads of compost and a couple more bucket loads of dirt, then more work with the little tiller you can see leaning against the tree and we had a flower bed that Jane figured flowers would live in.
After we leveled the dirt, we put the rocks back in.

Then Jane started doing her magic with flowers. I didn't take a picture of the finished project. Please stop by and see what you think.
Later,
Jerry C
