2010 Steam School Agenda

Hi all, I've heard rumors that there are steam school related activities of various sorts Friday and Monday as well as Saturday/Sunday.

I was wondering if anyone had an approximate agenda for the weekend so I can determine how many nights I should get for the hotel.

I'm really looking forward to steam school - I was just at Forest City IA a few weeks ago and it was about the most fun I've ever had. I'm looking forward to doing it some more.

Thanks.

What's in Forest City, IA? I've been there, but I didn't know there was anything steam related there. :computer:

As for Steam School I think most of the activities will be on Saturday & Sunday as most people have to work Friday & Monday. But, if someone else knows about anything, I hope they answer your question better. :)

edit: Upon a google search, I see Forest City has a Steam School too. neat!

Yup, https://www.heritageparkofnorthiowa.com/

Their show grounds are pretty nice. I'll definitely have to make it there this year. They just finished restoring a 40hp Gaar-Scott. I missed taking a look at it when I was there, so I'll just have to wait until September I guess :)

Mostly, I heard the train at Rollag is fired up Monday morning. If that is true, I'll definitely be staying for that :) I also heard rumors of a big bbq/pig roast Friday.

I think we will have the pork roast on Saturday evening... the locomotive(s) should be running off and on all weekend.

Steam School in Rollag is a great weekend. You will get a lot of good information in the classroom from a number of very "seasoned" instructors, and when class lets out for the day, you will get some throttle time on a variety of engines!

See you in a few weeks!

I'm certainly looking forward to it. I think a few of the instructors at Forest City are instructors at Rollag too.

We plan on having steam engines belted up to Prony Brakes and the Baker Fan both Saturday and Sunday. During the mornings when the 2010 students are in the classroom, past graduates (or anyone wanting to learn) are invited to come to get experience maintaining fire and water under load. This can also be used as time operating and enigne needed to take your Engineer's test.

Later,
Jerry Christiansen

Ok, good to know. Eventually, I want to get my MN license so I'll keep that in mind for future years.

I shall be there with my camera in hand! I seem to be tied up in so many other areas that I don't know when I'd have time to get my license, however it would be pretty great to learn more than the crash course I had at Edin's last fall - Jerry can attest to the mile wide grin on my face!

Yeah, I didn't bring my camera to the last one. I will this time.

And I understand the mile wide grin part :)

I you plan to go to that show to see the 40 Gaar Scott, you need to go it is one real nice engine and is one big tractor!!!

Kid's Day 2010?

Does anyone have details about any Kid's Day activities for Saturday?

And what's the lowdown on the pork roast/summer picnic?

If someone can fill me in asap I sure would appreciate it so we can post good info on the socials.:computer:
thanks!
