Bert Borgen
1930-2018
Bertrand “Bert” Borgen was born December 10, 1930, in Viding Township by Georgetown, MN, to William and Lillian (Reppen) Borgen. Bert was united in marriage to Elaine Olson on April 7, 1951, at St. Olaf Church, Faith, MN. They made their home and raised their family on a farm near Perley, MN.
Bert passed away on February 10, 2018, at the age of 87, surrounded by his family at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND, following complications from a brain aneurysm surgery.
Bert was baptized January 25, 1931, at Landstad Church, Perley, and confirmed July 1, 1945, at Winchester Lutheran Church, Borup, MN . He attended school at Borup High School, graduating on May 27, 1948. Following graduation, he worked for neighboring farmers, and helped on the home farm until he was united in marriage to Elaine. Bert worked for a construction company the first year they were married, then started farming on his own in November, 1951, near Perley.
Bert and Elaine raised six children, four girls and two boys. Bert also belonged to many clubs and served on many boards throughout his lifetime. Some of his best times were spent fishing at Lake of the Woods with family and friends, hunting with his sons and grandsons, collecting guns, and restoring over 100 antique tractors at his farm by Gardner, ND. He also volunteered many years at Rollag Steam Thresher’s Association’s Labor Day event, where he sold raffle tickets and got to visit with many people from all over the world. Bert and Elaine spent many winters at their home in Phoenix, AZ, where they met a lot of good friends.
Bert and Elaine are active members of The Lutheran Church of Christ the King in Moorhead, MN.
Bert is survived by his wife, Elaine; four daughters, Kathy (Roger) Dyrdahl, Perley, Deb Arett, Fargo, Lynn (Mark) Skansgaard, Strawberry Lake, MN, Vicki (Kirk) Strand, Ada, MN; two sons, Brian (Debby) Borgen, Hendrum, MN, Blake (Carol) Borgen, Perley; 19 grandchildren; 30+ great-grandchildren; four brothers, William Jr., Hendrum, MN, Russel (Nellie Holm), Ulen, MN, Curtis (Betty), Moorhead, and Dennis, Dilworth, MN; and one sister, Anne (Rex) Lindblom, Park Rapids, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Charles and Leon; and two sisters, Doris Eidem and Mae Stennes.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 15, 2018, from 5 – 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
His funeral will be Friday, February 16, 2018, at 11 AM, in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King.
Burial will take place in Landstad Cemetery, rural Perley.
