Big plans for 2007 show!

Plans are to thresh with 14 separators at one time! This has never been done before at any show that I know of.

The "event" will take place twice during the show... at 12:30 PM on Saturday, and again at the same time on Sunday.

I am not sure who had the original idea, but I am sure Eric Nelson and his crew, as well as Jim Briden are involved. Get in touch with them if you have any questions!

what area of the show grounds will this be taking place? on the expo hill southwest of the 1930's farmhouse?
be real neat to see this back down by the prony brake area. this is were i remember it used to be.

i'm working on a story and photos to post of my dad's thresher in use. we threshed 60 bushel last fall of the shows oats and things became interesting as the day progressed... more on this in a latter thread.

Fourteen rigs is going to take up a LOT of space. It will have to be in the Expo Terrace area.

Mark - I'm thinking I should be kept in the loop on the schedule for this, it sounds like an excellent opportunity for photos and/or video. - Any good options for getting an overhead shot of this? (like the cherry picker truck)

Sounds like a SUPER oppurtunity for everyone to get some great photos and video. What would one have to do to get an oppurtunity for a ride in the cherry picker truck? I've always wanted to get pics from a different perspective! I cant seem to make that jump to the first ladder rung on the clock tower! Great photo, Mark!

Been up there, didn't like it a whole lot. I have a lot of work to do up there again in the next few months!

The bucket truck will probably be very low key during the show. It will have to be discussed with the board who and for what reasons it gets pressed into service. It's primary focus is grounds maintenance. It is obviously a very dangerous piece of equipment in the wrong hands.

Awesome! Ya, my legs get a little wobbley once I see tree tops up close and personal. I sure would like to try though some day!! Although, I'm sure they dont want every Tom, Dick and Dawn up there--there's probably good reason for that!!

Impressive photo. Little high for parade photos tho! - I'd love to get up there if that's possible, I'm just concerned about dropping my camera gear, I could care less if I fall It would be pretty impressive to have for a few places in the showbook/video I think, especially since I can stitch it all together for a 360deg panorama of the grounds!

I'm guessing you were up there on a non-windy day.

i shouldn't be saying this but....

back about 5 years ago or more i brought my cam corder with and climbed up there and shot quite a bit of video. i believe it was towards the evening and NOT during the show.

yes, that first step is a doozy!

dad and are hoping to have our 28" JD thresher ready for this event. may be in working clothes but everything inside is "perfect".

we threshed 60 bushel last fall of wmstr oats and i was impressed at how few husks was not in the grain.

new sieves and all the fine tuning from verle and mike maarsa sure makes a difference.

Back to the BIG PLANS 2007

found this elsewhere in the forum and thought the significance was worth adding it on to this thread.

in the past, i've been asked "where are all the threshing machines"? i gestered to where they were and explanied this is what we have for threshing with steam. the lady came back with "isn't this the western

minnesota steam threshing reunion"? "why isn't there more threshing machines operating"? what do you say? times are changing and to keep an interest for the gate to produce you have to have a variety to keep the show going. [i personally would love to see more threshing.]

Threshing machines need bundles to keep threshing. That takes Acres of grain and many volunteers to gather in the bundles. Currently we just about Kill 10 to 20 volunteers getting in the loads of bundles that we do store up and thresh. It is a big investment in time and money to do what we do, to do more would be a big challenge.

I can easily get atleast a dozen guys to help out (they might be 18 or younger) but they love steam and the idea of threshing that many seperators, we will help any way we can just give me a shout. We may be young but we love Rollag and WE are more than willing to help any way we can.

I would also be more than willing to help out with preparing for the show and moving the bundles that need be moved. Just post on here or PM me if there is some project I can help with!

this is going to be one "threshing amazing" site to see.

Threshing Extravaganza!

Yes, Rollag is going to put on an amazing demonstration on the Saturday and Sunday during the show! We hope to have a "lot" of threshing machines in a row throwing out a lot of straw (and maybe collecting a lot of grain?) This project needs a lot of workers! Threshing machine owners need to make sure that the machines that are to be used have belts properly installed and have good drive belts! They need to run their engines before the actual demonstration, especially if the machine has not been used for several years. Each machine will need someone to watch it during the threshing and we will need help belting up the steam engines! There are many details yet to be handled but with a group effort we are going to "make history" with this ultimate threshing demonstration! It is not too early to commit yourself to making this project take place!

Can anyone give an estimated time on Sat and Sun when the most action will be taking place on this event (aside from weather issues) - The WMSTR video crew will be out in force this year, and this is an event that we will try and capture both days, from the heights of the bucket truck. PM or E-Mail me if there is a rough idea of time.

Also, I will be up there the week prior to the show running around with cameras as well, so I can get any pre-show activity in the area if there is any.

Sounds as though we are going to have a lot of help. We can sure use it. PLEASE contact me through my e-mail address given above and give me your contact information! I believe the threshing extravaganza is to take place on Saturday and Sunday at 12:30 each day! Yes, cutting with a binder and shocking is WORK but when a group is involved it goes a bit better. Last Saturday I helped cut and shock 11.5 acres of Oats in Northern Minnesota for threshing with steam the last weekend in September. Perhaps we can use this forum to alert help as to our needs at Rollag!

Regarding the use of the bucket truck for photography......those of you who are doing all the video production might want to talk to me about the renting of one of those self propelled lifts. I would be glad to share expenses on that rental if you could talk the show into helping with it. Bucket truck is unwieldy and may not be handy when we need it? Figure total cost of a lift, delivered to the grounds at about $900 for the entire show! Contact me if you have questions.

Here is the view that I had...standing atop the Wagner Langemo looking east. There were 11 machines to the east of me and 2 to the west.. Wow!!!
