Cretors Steam Engine

I have a Cretors steam engine and am looking for advice/assistance making sure it is lubricated appropriately before “starting it up”. Before taking the lubricators apart I would like to know what I am getting into. I am looking for any general information about this engine, it is a Model 1 serial number 6825.

Thanks for your help.

I was waiting for someone with more model experience to jump in but since no one has responded, I can take a stab at some basic answers. It will make a difference what you use for lubricating the cylinder depending on if you are running it on steam or on air. If it is steam, you will want to use steam cylinder oil. That has ingredients that will help the oil emulsify in the steam and coat the cylinder with oil. Regular oil won't mix with the steam well. If you are just running it on air, then i have heard that people use the oil that is used with air tools. As far as the rest of the engine, a good grade of machine oil will be good for the bearings and other moving parts. These are nice little steam engines.

Thanks for your reply. This is helpful. I will be using air. Are people making their parts they need for this engine or are there sources for parts? For starters I am looking for an exhaust pipe. Prefer not to use "hardware store" pipe.

There is one name that comes up many times in discussions about Cretors engines and that is Bob Pearson in Kansas City. Not sure if he is currently still working with these, but he was in 2021 when I found the posting about it. His email was listed as [email protected]. Don't know if that helps or not.
