We just recieved word that long time member Maurice Nelson passed away yesterday July 04 in Washington. Maury was born in Rollag and had moved to the state of Washington. Maury and his wife Aileen came back every year a month before the show and spent countless hours preparing for the upcoming show. Maury and Aileen did this for 25+ years. Maury's son Peter and wife Debbie have been carrying on this tradition. Maury is also the grandfather to Sean Nelson.

Maurice Edgar Nelson

Maury Nelson passed away July 4, 2010. He was born on October 22, 1922 in Hawley, Minnesota. He was in the Army Air Force. He came to Washington where he met his wife. He retired as a greyhound bus driver in 1983. He was also a retired volunteer of Fire District 16.

He is survived by his children, Peter (Debbie), Eric (Debbie C.), John (Wanda), Mark (Cheryl); grandchildren, Sean (Rebecca), Kelly (DJ), Christoper, Crystal; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Emily Nelson, Abbigail and Wyatt Misner; his brother, Ned (Janet); brother, John (Joan); sister, Vivian; brother-in-law, Denny; and many nephews and neices.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Aileen; his brother, Kermit; sister, Ethel; sister-in-law, Marlene.

Maury spent his summers volunteering at Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion. He loved getting everything ready for the big show. This has become a family tradition that started with his father and mother over 50 years ago. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are now a part of this. In the last 10 years he has really gotten into HO trains. He loved building and add-ons to his many train sets. He also enjoyed the numerous birds that landed on his deck. He had a great time camping with his friends and neighbors from the lake.

He would have liked it, that he died during lots of colorful fireworks. As we told the great-grandkids, "Grandpa and Grandma are dancing the schottish in heaven".

There will be a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Lake Stevens, WA.

Memorials may be made to the Granite Falls Food Bank, 215 S Granite Ave., Granite Falls, WA 98252.

The family wishes to thank all those involved in his care the last few months.

So sorry to hear this. Thanks for bringing it to our attention Brian...

Deepest sympathy to Pete, Sean, and families.

He will be missed, I remember him at the miniature sawmill and he was always fun to talk with. With deepest sympathy from the crew in the miniature sawmill.:praying:

I was just starting to think about the possibility of doing stacks this year. Maury could toss bundles to a stacker very well.
