Just want to put in a plug for a long time WMSTR member that is reliving a piece of Minnesota History. Orlin left July 1 from Pembina, ND and is taking an Ox and cart and retracing the famous Ox Cart trail for Minnesota's Sesquicentennial. He plans to be at the fairgrounds in Minneapolis in about 45 days in time for the State Fair.
Orlyn brought horses to Rollag for several years all the way from Gatzke, MN.
Orlyn is recreating Delmar Hagen's ox cart journey that Delmar took 50 years ago for the state's Centtennial. Delmar had taken his journey through Rollag in 1958. My mother and a few others remember Delmar as he came through Rollag. Orlyn worked for Delmar when he was younger.
Orlyn made it to Lake Park today and he has his cart parked in my brother Sherwood's garage this evening. The boys and I had to go see it this evening. Orlyn is planning on leaving Lake Park at 6:30 am and hoping to make it to Detroit Lakes later tomorrow, he can go about 10+ miles a day.
Orlyn has a website and you can follow his whole trip. It is a real great website. www.walkingthepembinatrail.com
