Steam School 2012 is almost here.

We'd love to see the photos you take!

If there are any students from last year that are looking for some hours we will be firing up the 75hp Case on Friday

There will be some engineers coming down from the Hawk Museum to get some training on how to put on a good spark show aa well.

28 Minneapolis #7700 should be up and running on Friday, as well!

Clara - I might stop by if I can put down the camera! I have yet to work on a Minneapolis!

Steam School success but need more students on the Mpls 28

Tim - Just read your post... we would be very happy to have you work with us on the Mpls 28. Steam School was another success... BUT - we need more steam enthusiasts coming to the engine to fire under load. We are there all day Saturday and Sunday for anyone who wants to learn or brush up on this when we are on the prony. Students do have priority after class gets out.

Firing under load is a totally different process than throwing in a stick of wood or a scoop of coal when the engine is idling along or sitting still, and if not done correctly it is when the most damage can occur.

I see the Edin Minneapolis on the Prony Brake for hours every Steam School weekend. Very generous offer from them to have people up to learn this skill, and to the Prony Brake crew for manning the other end of the belt to provide the load.

Everyone who eventually wants to earn a spot on an engine crew should go spend some time with them to learn the skill.

We are very lucky to have dedicated engineers like the Edins. Their Minneapolis was on the red brake all weekend. I would like to see more people come take advantage of this opportunity. They are a great crew to learn from. Not many people wonder down there but if we 'season' one engineer well its worth it.
